Salt Lake City, March 7, 2024 - BioUtah, Utah’s trade association dedicated to the life sciences community, in partnership with the University of Utah’s Technology Licensing Office, today announced the nine startup companies have been selected to pitch to investors and guests attending the 2024 Entrepreneur & Investor Life Sciences Summit (E&I Summit). The E&I Summit will be held on March 14 at the Sheraton Hotel in Salt Lake City and is proudly sponsored by Wilson Sonsini.

The nine companies listed below were selected from over 30 companies that applied to present. These companies were chosen based on a number of criteria, including uniqueness of the product, potential of the product for commercialization, and quality of management. Signpath Pharma

Signpath is a clinical stage biotech company that has developed a platform technology which mitigates the cardiac arrhythmia and cardiac damage associated with other drugs, including chemotherapy. They are currently in stage 2 testing with the first application of this technology at Johns Hopkins.

Bloom Surgical

Bloom Surgical empowers minimally invasive surgeons to resolve intraoperative visual disruptions with its revolutionary in-abdomen rapid-response tool, LaparoVision. LaparoVision is a disposable, cost-effective laparoscope attachment tool that reduces surgical frustration, duration, and complication.

Diagnostic Ventures

Diagnostic Ventures has a patented solution to detect and identify Sepsis in patients from whole blood. Fifty million people get it and 11 million people die from it worldwide. This helps doctors give the right antibiotics to save lives.

PolarityTE

PolarityTE is leading the development of autologous cell therapies to address the immense disease burden of complex wounds. Their mission is to transform patient lives and the Wild West of wound care in the process, with their lead Phase 3 product SkinTE backed by five positive trials and 1200+ clinical cases.

SPIRE

SPIRE provides an ultrasonic neuromodulation device that alleviates symptoms of chronic pain and depression.

RespirAI Medical

RespirAI is transforming the management of chronic respiratory diseases with an AI-based home monitoring platform. Utilizing wearable sensors, an AI-patented algorithm, and a user-friendly app, it empowers patients with chronic conditions to take control over their health and save their lives.

3Dio

3Dio has developed the Lumos 3DX, the world's first 3D intra-oral high-res X-ray for dentistry. 3Dio seeks funding to launch this revolutionary product into the market. Already cleared by the FDA and practicing dentists, Lumos 3DX will revolutionize all aspects of dental diagnosis and treatment.

Stingray Therapeutics

Stingray is a clinical stage biotech company that has developed potent and selective small molecule inhibitors of ENPP1, the only known checkpoint of the innate immune system. Their Phase I clinical trial initiated in November 2023 and the first cohort is already in the therapeutic dosing range.

AGED Diagnostics

AGED is developing the most accurate blood test for fatty liver disease that can differentiate the benign from advanced form of liver disease and also stage fibrosis (liver scarring) through a blood test that uses advanced genomic sequencing.

“We had a tremendous response to our call for applications from our life sciences community,” said Kelvyn Cullimore, president and CEO, of BioUtah. “The nine companies that are advancing to the Pitch Competition, and every company that threw their hat in the ring, deserve recognition. They all reflect Utah’s long-standing tradition of innovation and entrepreneurship.”

Many of the companies not pitching in the competition are presenting in the virtual Pitch Hall, which is available through the Whova app being used for the Summit. Investors and Summit participants may view those presentations and learn more about the innovative technologies these companies are developing.  

“The Pitch Competition will underscore Utah’s fast-growing innovation hub - one of the fastest growing in the nation,” said Myles Greenberg, MD, CEO of Alucent Biomedical and chair of the BioUtah Board of Directors. "Our aim is to showcase promising life sciences startups to local and national investors and ultimately help bring new treatments and cures to patients.”

The nine companies will pitch live to E&I Summit attendees, angel investors, and representatives from venture capital funds. Finalists will be selected by a panel of industry leaders and investor experts. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony to close the Summit.
